I heard there is relevance of Port Washington's sand pits and Manhattan is this true?

There is a very revealing interesting Sand Miner's Monument off West Shore Road, in front of the Harbor Links Golf Course. In fact, many of the large buildings in Manhattan were built from the sand barged from here to NYC.
