Does Pleasant Valley support local businesses?

I would say yes. There's enough local business to go around in this town, and enough of a population (as in, consumers) to fuel it, so it does succeed here. The thing one might need to watch for is the sprawl of the Poughkeepsie area, which has more and more big chain stores and restaurants. If the region continues to grow as it does now, business in Pleasant Valley might be a little less local as these types of establishments spread throughout the area.
