"Palos Verdes Drive South"

This neighborhood stretches along the coastline from the border of San Pedro along Palos Verdes Drive South, including the Portuguese Bend area, north to Point Vicente Park and the western terminus of Hawthorne Boulevard. Palos Verdes Drive South is the principal road serving this area. Many of the homes in this area offer excellent ocean and Catalina views. The nearest shopping area for homes in the southern portion of this neighborhood is located in San Pedro. Golden Cove Center is located at the northern end at the intersection of Palos Verdes Drive South and Hawthorne and contains the Admiral Risty Restaurant, a Trader Joe's market, a Montessori school, and many local services. The Wayfarers Chapel is also located in this area. Other neighborhoods include Abalone Cove, Ladera Linda, Vista Pacifica, Seacove, and Seabluff

Two wonderful resorts/golf courses are located in this area. The Terranea Resort is a fantastic highly rated resort hotel with great restaurants and accommodations. Trump National Golf Course is also a nationally recognized golf resort with ocean views from every hole, and with a great restaurant and dining facilities.

The homes on the hills overlooking Terranea are high end homes with incredible views. The area to the south of Terranea on the ocean side of Palos Verdes Drive South are somewhat older homes, smaller and less expensive. This area is also home to the Palos Verdes Bay Club, a very large condominium project next to the ocean.

Several other condominium and townhouse projects are located in this area including the Ocean Terrace ( La Rotunda ) condominium project adjacent to the Trump National Golf Course at the southern end of the area, and the Seahill and Coastsite townhomes, located just south of the new Terranea resort ( formerly Marineland/Long Point), and the Villa Capri townhomes located adjacent to the Golden Cove shopping center..

The area just south of the Wayfarers Chapel is the gated community of Portuguese Bend to the north side of Palos Verdes Drive South. The homes in this area generally have restrictions on development due to a large landslide in the area which began in the early 1950's.The Portuguese Bend Club is in the center of this portion of the Peninsula, on the ocean side of the Drive just south of the Portugeuse Bend gated community and is adjacent to the Portuguese Bend landslide moratorium area. Homes in the landslide area have restrictions on their ability to be expanded or renovated. Some of the homes in the Sea View community on the north side of the Drive across the drive from the Portuguese Bend Club have also been affected by the landslide moratorium in the area.

The neighborhood of Ladera Linda across the street from Trump National has some homes with great ocean and golf course views. The Ladera Linda recreational area is also located here with several large athletic fields and a community room.
Pros
  • Great schools
  • Stunning views
Cons

"Palos Verdes Drive South-- Stunning views and lots of fresh air."

Palos Verdes Drive South is a neighborhood on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, which stretches along the coastline from the border of San Pedro to the north side of Point Vicente Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. Palos Verdes Drive South is the main road serving this area. Many of the homes in this area offer stunning ocean and Catalina Island views. The Portuguese Bend Club (a private beach club) is in the center of this portion, and is next to the Portuguese Bend landslide area. Homes in this area have certain restrictions on their expansion or renovation.

The nearest shopping area for homes in the southern portion of this neighborhood is located in San Pedro. Golden Cove Center serves the northern end at the intersection of Palos Verdes Drive South and Hawthorne and contains a Trader Joe’s, the Admiral Risty Restaurant, Starbucks, a gas station, a Montessori school, and some other small local services. The shopping center is fine for small purchases, but for anything big, you need to go to the Peninsula Center or even Torrance.

The Wayfarers Chapel is also located in this area. The chapel is stunning—inside and outside. Many couples choose this chapel as their wedding venue. Other smaller neighborhoods in this area are Abalone Cove (great place for watching small sea animals), Ladera Linda (has a soccer field with stunning ocean views), Vista Pacifica, Seacove, and Seabluff. The schools for this area are Point Vicente Elementary, Palos Verdes Intermediate School, and older children can choose between Palos Verdes High School and Peninsula High School. All schools on the Peninsula are excellent.

Several condominium and townhouse projects are located in this area which is adjacent to Trump National Golf Course. Yes, Donald Trump was responsible for this amazing golf course. The golf course has great hiking trails and manicured lawns. Just south of it is the fabulous Terranea resort (formerly known as Marineland). This place is spectacular. It is the only beach resort in Los Angeles County and features pools, golf courses, hiking trails, great restaurants, spas and incredible ocean views.
