Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I'm biased towards the Marina. We're close to the water, bay and Golden Gate Bridge, surrounded by parks, have a great commercial street with Chestnut Street plus Fillmore and proximity to Cow Hollow. There are plenty of housing options, but we're not any where near as dense as other cities, or areas within San Francisco like South Beach. Overall the Marina a great place to live.

It depends a lot on what you are looking for in a neighborhood. The number one neighborhood in terms of being the best for families might be Pacific Heights, for example, while the best neighborhood for 20-somethings just out of college might be North Beach or the Mission. The neighborhoods in SF like in a lot of iconic cities are fairly distinctive and have pretty diverse offerings and it is like choosing between your children--it is hard to choose just one.
