Relocating from Chicago

My wife and I are relocating to San Francisco we currently live in Chicago. We have a 4 year old and a 1 year old we are a working middle-class family and are looking to rent. We are looking for a safe neighborhood and hoping to pay no more than 2K a month (sigh) lol. One of the reasons we are moving is that my Dad is in a battle with stage 4 cancer. Needless to say we aren't wealthy and just everyday people that love San Francisco any recommendations on 2 b/r rentals and safe diverse family neighborhood districts in SF?

I would recommend the Outer Richmond area. The rent is generally cheaper. The schools are better. Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach are within walking distance. It's also close to major public transportation lines. It's still in San Francisco, but it's a more family-friendly area.

The apartments will probably be smaller than what you're used to, but we've lived here for 2 years and it's been nice.

Yes. Because of the lower cost of living, we're starting to see a lot more young people taking advantage of the larger units and lower rents. Unfortunately, we're seeing more vehicles on the streets as a result.
