The Outer Richmond is a great place for families. It is generally more quiet than the rest of the City. There are many playgrounds and parks, the beach, and lots of community activities. There are plenty of family-friendly cafes and restaurants. As for the homes, many have yards to play in.

Actually that is exactly who I would recommned it for. If you are going to live in the City, have a family and kids, Outer Richmond is THE place to be. It is a little away from the action. The public school is good. You have museums and Golden Gate Park and homes that are a little larger than the San Francisco average.
