"Home to Heather Farms and the Walnut Festival"
On the south side of Ygnacio Valley road this is a pretty pedestrian middle class neighborhood like a million others that you can find in California and throughout the country.
On the north side of Ygnacio Valley Road, however this is the home of Heather Farms, a park area that has just about everythign that you could ask for in a park. It has all the usual things you would expect though in larger numbers: several baseball fields, basketball courts and a very substantial kid's play area with walls to climb and san boxes and the whole bit. But it also has a wonderful artificial lake/pond with ducks. The paved trail is dotted with exercise areas and is a favorite for locales for early morning runs.
There is also a great botanical garden area and a great old tree. They also have a large pool and skateboard area frequented by the local kids on afternoons afterschool and weekends. There is an equestrian center at the end of the avenue as well.
Heather Farms is also home to the various local family friendly events and to the Walnut Festival. They hold large Easter Egg hunts and often will have weekend events for people of all ages. Several summer camp activities are held there. There is a nearby strip mall and great Vet hospital: Valley Vet.
All in all, it may be the best park in Contra Costa County and one of the best in NorCal.
