Events listings in NYC
I know we've seen this in a couple of previous threads a while back, but can everyone help me make a little compedium of local events listings for NYC. I'm thinking of
flavorpill.com
and the like. Would be nice to know about a few neighborhood-specific and/or topic-specific ones (ie, indie music listings, undergraound film screenings, whatever)
Thanks, everyone!

Dailycandy comes to mind. Of course there are also the Village Voice listings. I'd have to think about some others:

@Uraniumfish the L magazine is also available online and has a weekly listing of events and other going-ons in the city.

@Uraniumfish the upper east side actually has its own portal with event listings-

BushwickBK.com is my neighborhood blog - they write about things other than events, but they cover the going-ons of the neighborhood very well.

@ajadedidealist it was my go to list to find everything when I first moved to NYC.

Be honest, people: how often do you go to events on you find on these sites?

@BroadwayBK Good point! Hardly ever. But after you get to know a scene well you don't need to check out what to do on flavorpill. I pretty much am on the circuit for certain kinds of performance & music events and don't need to check the listings.

@BroadwayBk got to agree with Uraniumfish but as she says once you find out what interests you then you dont really need to check the listings as you know what you want to see/ experience and look out for it.

@Uraniumfish @uptowngirl Yeah, and it also seems to me that if you are surrounded by enough people in the know, you actually hear about cool things before even Flavorpill does.

@Everybody Agreed. I only need the listings if I'm looking for something not within my usual range on the events radar.

Okay, I actually read the emails I get with all the listings - and sometimes I see stuff that looks cool - but I often just end up hanging out with friends.

But the listings are good for reminding you about things you like and want to see, like great music festivals that happen every year. Who wants to keep up with all of that if you can have the listings to remind you when they come up.

I really like DailyCandy - it brightens my day, even though I can hardly ever afford to buy things that they list. Guess it goes with that just-buying-the-magazine-is-enough theory of luxury consumption.
