In Mission Dolores the majority of the crimes happen around the 16th Street Bart Station and around Valencia. Unfortunately you mostly can't really avoid these places since they are the way you get into Mission and Valencia the place where you shop in Mission.
You should be okay so long as you keep your wits about you and use common sense (e.g., don't go out alone in the middle of the night).
