"Minnetonka... oasis of natural beauty"

You might expect the second ring suburb of Minnetonka to be the home of Lake Minnetonka, but while it wraps around the border of the lake's easternmost bay the lake itself doesn't lie within its borders. However, Minnetonka's most distinguishing feature is its natural resources, with more than 20% of its land area as wetlands and lakes. It boasts 400 acres of parkland in 50 parks, 33 miles of trails and 1,000 acres of natural public open spaces.

"Gray's Bay Marina"

Gray’s Bay Public Access and Marina is located at the corner of County Road 101 South and Gray’s Bay Boulevard. The site itself is owned by the Department of Natural Resources, while the city of Minnetonka owns the fuel system, permanent docks and the building (including an office, vending, and public restrooms).

Amenities include a parking lot with 112 vehicle-with-trailer spaces and 21 vehicle-only spaces, three launch lanes and 29 permanent boat slips. Of the 21 vehicle-only spaces, 14 are reserved for boat slip holders.

The operating season is approximately April 1 to October 31, weather and ice-out dates permitting. During the season, the facility may be used 24 hours a day.

"One of Minnesota's best places to raise a family"

Minnetonka is a city rich in history stretching back to the mid 1800’s and has grown to a a community of 51,451 residents, making it the 19th largest city in Minnesota. Residents enjoy 49 community parks, more than 35 miles of trails and 1,000 acres of public open space. The city of Minnetonka includes only one bay of Lake Minnetonka – Gray’s Bay, which forms the headwaters of Minnehaha Creek. A fantastic recreation program for youth and adults, includes turf at 96 sites as well as 17 athletic fields, 10 hockey and 10 pleasure skating rinks in the winter.

"Minnetonka Real Estate"

Minnetonka

Minnetonka, which literally means the city of big water (minne for water and tonka for big), is one of the biggest cities in Minnesota (number 14 in terms of population. Lake Minnetonka’s (one of Minnesota’s largest lakes) eastern tip is located in the city.

Non residents may think that the city is the location of the entire lake because of its name. However, aside from the name Minnetonka, the only thing they share is a small portion of the Lake known as Gray’s Bay. Lake Minnetonka consists of about 14,000 acres and it is not surprising that while Minnetonka shares only a small portion of the entire lake, it is still among the favorite destinations of tourists.

Minnetonka Lake’s popularity to both residents and tourists can be attributed to its history as well as its inclusion in “The Song of Hiawatha”, an epic poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1855. The poem is a poetic narrative of Minnesota’s landmarks including the Minnehaha Falls and of course, the Minnetonka Lake.

Minnetonka Lake is perhaps one of the major reasons why Minnesota particularly Minnetonka is an attractive relocation site for those planning an executive relocation, professional relocation, corporate relocation and even employee relocation. The prospects of fishing on the Minnetonka Lake, which is becoming popular for fishing tournaments, has always been too much to resist for just about anyone. In fact it is being dangled by most relocation information brochures as one of the top benefits of relocating in Minnesota. The Lake is home to various game species including sunfish, northern pike, yellow perch and walleye.

Population profile

Minnetonka is quite densely populated with 1,893 persons for every square mile. Not surprising considering its population of 51,301 people and 22,228 housing units as of the 2000 census. Majority or 94.40% of the population are Whites, followed by Germans (24.7%), Germans (13.8%) and a mixture of Irish, Swedish, English, Asians and African Americans.

Majority or around 56.6% of the 21,393 households are composed of married couples while 29.1% are households with minor children. The population is slight matured with a median age of 41 years. Surprisingly (considering the population density) Minnetonka has provided well for its residents, with only 1.5% of the families and around 2.6% of the total population living below poverty level.

"Still has that small town feel - friendly people willing to help - talk"

So you're not a member of the "Polar Bear Club" and you don't find it disable to jump in a frozen over lake, you're more into golf and you miss it. Minnetonka has "The Bunker Indoor Golf Center" play any of several of the worldwide courses in total comfort,May I suggest Mauna Kea Golf Club or St. Andrews Jubilee Course? 12 FULL swing simulators are very accurate reportedly to within a few yards. I haven't tried the practice range but understand it to be good if you don't have time for a full round about an hour. PS Cost is per Simulator hour not per person so bring a friend and the pizza is very good.

"Minnetonka is Cool."

I like Minnetonka a lot. It's pretty massive geographically, the east side offers quick commutes to the city, the west side enjoys Lake Minnetonka frontage, and with about 50,000 residents, it's also diverse.

Green space is abundant, there are tons of great parks and trails. Shopping conveniences are easy to find, from the big commercial centers at Ridgedale Mall or the intersection of Highways 7 & 101, to the smaller nooks around Glen Lake or at 101 & Minnetonka Blvd, just for example.

The best part of Minnetonka is that it's loaded with great neighborhoods in a wide variety of price ranges. If you like to be close to the city but prefer a bigger lot, with some mature trees and privacy, it's a great place to look. Most homes are mid-century, built from the 1950s-70s, but there's a smattering of early century homes and always some new construction to be found. More and more, the new builds are a results of tearing down some of the old.

So large in size, the city actually maps into several school districts. Smaller portions of the northwest and southwest are in the Wayzata District and Eden Prairie Districts respectively. The larger western portion is in the Minnetonka District and most of the east in the Hopkins District.

"A little bit of everything"

Minnetonka covers a large area and has just about everything you could want in a city. The Minnetonka School District is very highly rated and there are some very affordable neighborhoods to live in. There are occasional brand new developments and new homes being built in existing neighborhoods as well. The parks, trees, topography and access to Lake Minnetonka are some of my favorite parts about Lake Minnetonka.

"The Best of all Worlds"

Minnetonka has everything you can ask for. The location is both convenient for downtown commuters but just minutes from all that Lake Minnetonka has to offer. Add great schools and neighborhoods to the mix to combine into one of Minneapolis' most sought after suburbs. It also tends to be more affordable that most of it's immediate neighbors. There are also great parks and trails to satisfy any outdoor enthusiast. Check it out for yourself. You will like what you see.

"A really fun city to call home"

Minnetonka has nearly 50 parks, miles of trails and more than 1,000 acres of public open space and is close to down town Minneapolis (short commute). Minnetonka is HQ to many companies (Cargill, United Health & Super Value to name just a few) and is a popular place to live in the western metro due to its central location.
