Where are older areas in the southwest metro of Minneapolis?

My family and I are most likely going to be relocating back to Minneapolis after a few years away. Previously, we lived in South Minneapolis. We loved it--close to the Minnehaha Parkway, great local eateries/shopping, older homes, mature trees. It had a great neighborhoody feel.

However, when we move back, we are most likely going to be limited to either the SW (NE Eden Prairie, 212-169-494 triangle) or the far NE (convergence of Vadnais Heights, White Bear, Maplewood) because of desired schools for our kids. Specifically, we are most interested in the SW metro because we're most familiar and attached to the Minneapolis side of the metro.

I'm really not excited to live in the suburbs. I really like being in the city because of the what I mentioned above. However, we really, REALLY want to simplify our lives, and a huge part of that would be localizing all our commitments. We are not wanting to commute very far for school and work.

Hello!

If you are looking to recreate the parks, shops, restaurants and walkability of SW Minneapolis you may want to consider the following:

Round Lake in Eden Prairie, it's right by the Eden Prairie High School, has walking paths and a beach and is walking distance to stores and restaurants on Highway 5. As for the far NE, White Bear Lake has one of the biggest lakes around and it has a charming downtown with cute restaurants and unique places to shop.

We are all about simplifying ourselves so we completely understand your desire to find the community that works best for you.

Good Luck!

I moved away from the Minnehaha Parkway area 20 plus years back. I too choose to relocate back to good old MN. My first area of choice was the Tangle town area for all the great eateries and proximate to the lakes and downtown. I settled in Minnetrista for lake Minnetonka living. My alternate choice was Excelsior for all the great restaurants, shops, trails, lake Minnetonka and the general feel.

There are a lot of very cool neighborhoods in Edina and the Edina schools are very highly ranked across the board. A lot of neighborhoods in Edina still make you feel like you are in SW Mpls.

St. Louis Park also has a lot of areas with a SW Mpls feel. St. Louis Park as well as Edina are in such a convenient location to almost everything you could want.
