Is it possible to find a nice house in Mill Valley for $800 to 900,000

I am in my late fifties. I am looking to move with my daughter who just completed her masters in chemistry and is applying to med school. We are originally from New York Suburbs and two years ago moved to Florida and hate it. Too much crime, way too hot and humid. Would love a small suburb feel (not hickey) with lots of restaurants and close to the beach. Any suggestions other then Mill Valley would be appreciated. We do not know a lot about the west coast but hear it's very nice with the exception of LA. Been there twice and not a fan. Thank you!
