Where dreams are made of .. there is nothing you can't do in New York

Just read a story in the NYT about a Swedish porn star who moved to NYC , switched careers and is now a huge real estate star who is set to star in a Bravo reality show on real estate brokers. Granted he hails from a prominent Swedish family, but I don't think he would have achieved the same kind of success in any other US city , except NYC where you truly can be what you want to be to quote Alicia Keys.

oops sorry I think I could sidetracked into reading about how Canada is welcoming immigrants and providing them with free health care as well.. here's the correct link http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/14/fashion/14eklund.html Btw we in the US always seem to laugh at Canada and dismiss it as being boring but they seem to be doing real fine.. they have a well managed economy, free health care and one of their citizens Ryan Reynolds has just been voted the sexiest man alive by People magazine. So much for a boring country.

Why would he become a porn star in the first place? Perhaps he found it enjoyable...who knows?

Why am I not impressed by this "rags to riches" story. I mean, Eklund? Even I have heard of that prominent family. The guy did not exactly suffer at the bottom rungs of society ever.

@Uraniumfish Really? makes you wonder then why in the world he would want to be a porn star if he is from a prominent, well to do family ? shock factor?

Is this a rags to riches story? I am so confused. And I always thought that white dudes from prominent families are set for whatever they feel like doing, ESPECIALLY if they want to be on reality TV.

@BroadwayBk The NYT portrayed it so but seems they got their facts wrong?

I think all we can learn from the article is that while most people who try to get out of porn and become respectable have a hard time living it down, it's no problem at all if your'e already rich and privileged!

@Uraniumfish apparently porn stars also known as Adult movie stars have it way easier in places like Japan where porn is quite acceptable http://www.cnngo.com/tokyo/life/japans-adult-video-stars-make-their-way-real-world-932681

I read the article. More power to him. If he can go from a porn star to a successful real estate broker, good for him. I know a lady, who was a porn star. She claimed she got out of the business and is now working as a personal trainer. She's in her fifties now and still looks good for her age. The adage is if you really want to do it, you will.

@hhusted that's so true and everybody seems to like a successful person so perhaps they are willing to overlook his previous life..

Wasn't there a porn star in Italy who got elected to public office? Anybody know more about this?

@Uptowngirl: People like dealing with others who are successful. What better way to present yourself than to be hooked up with something considered unethical or illegal, and straighten your life out to become successful.

@Adjadedidealist: No, I never heard of such a person. However, if I do run across any info about the person, I'll post it here.

@ajadedidealist in fact in Italy there have been several female porn stars who have attempted to run for office http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKL1080561820080410

@Ajadedidealist: I guess when people become successful in the spotlight, and leave it, they miss it and want to get back in the spotlight in another capacity.

@hhusted there is a certain amount of truth to that for sure...

@Uptowngirl: I was told by my screenwriting instructor that many actors, when they aren't getting parts in movies, are either singing for money, or doing something to be in the spotlight.

I think that most, actors, if they aren't working want another creative outlet or they'll kind of lose it and focus too much on what they're not getting.
