Transferring a balance on a expired Metro Card

I have a question for all of you. I just discovered that I have a half used pay per ride Metro Card which is due to expire later this month. Since I am only coming in next month could I transfer the balance on to a new card? how and where can I do this? I think there is $20-30 on the card and I could use it rather than allow to be wasted.

Hmm. You might have to just mail it to a friend and have them use it, then get them to buy you an equivalent card.

The MTA has information about transferring the balance of cards. You may want to go to MTA's website to read about it. I haven't been there in a while, so am not sure if it is still there. Check out this web page: http://www.mta.info/metrocard/problems.htm
