Some cafes in the West Village

Looks like I'll be spending a lot of time in the West Village int he next few weeks and could use some good cafe recommendations, from those of you who know the Village better than me. Ideally, I'd love to find places where working on my laptop for hours at a time would not be frowned upon, and a free Wifi connection would be great too! Thanks.

@Uraniumfish I love Cafe Angelique on Bleecker Street but I am not sure that they have free Wifi- check out their website and send them an email asking them if you wish-

Cafe Angelique is great! I strongly recommend it. The coffee in particular is very nice there, especially the cafe au lait.

Do most of the cafes have other types of drinks like hot chocolate or soda, and maybe even deserts?

@hhusted Cafe Angelique has a whole host of coffees, teas I think even herbal teas on its menu along with pastries, deserts, muffins, croissants and much more.

I'll look into Angelique, and see what else I discover.

By the way, on a recent West Village visit I had the chocolate eclair at Claude's Patisserie and it really is the best eclair in the world (beats those I've had in Paris).

hey uraniumfish: Cafe Doma (Perry and 4th) is an amazing place to go with your laptop. I sit there all day sometimes. It's charming and is great for people watching; and, they have great food!
And Jack's on Greenwich and 10th is, in my opinion, the best coffee in the city. The staff is really friendly and the owner is there a lot and he's a really nice guy.
Both places house a lot of writers so they're used to people parking for long periods of time. No wifi but they make up for it in coolness and sometimes you can steal a connection.

Hey, I actually know Doma and it is pretty wonderful. I had forgotten about it...

For Tea, I think the English pub/tea house Tea and Sympathy on Greenwich Ave is a definite hit. Shepherd's pie, treacle pudding, and lots of wonderful flavored tea! Also the La Bergamote cafe on 17th and 9th Ave has proper coffee/tea served in bowls, not cups! It might technically be considered Chelsea though

@ajadedidealist I do agree Tea and Sympathy is quite lovely though I also like the chippy A Salt and Battery which is located next door, only you tend to smell of the frying for hours after you leave the place.:(

@Uptowngirl: In that case, I think I will go to Cafe Angelique. Thanks for the tip.

Didn't Tea and Sympathy come up elsewhere? I feel like I need to go there... and I am down for whoever has better eclairs than those in France, too.

@hhusted I am the wrong person to ask.

@BroadwayBK How is it?

@Neversleeps - I think Tea and Sympathy came up on a post topic about coffees/teas. Either way, I'll recommend it twice. The desserts (treacle pudding, toffee pudding, all with custard) are caloric nightmares, but they are absolutely scrumptiously delicious
