Wow, what a strange and intriguing story! I wonder how it will all pan out. Certainly somehow/someone needs to establish that NYC public schools need a serious rethinking

Imagine suing the city for anything. Actually, a number of companies, and individuals sued the city of NY and won. So it can be done. Maybe that is why this city is so broke. They have to put out so much money on lawsuits. I always thought the police department in NYC has been deficient in so many ways. At least that has been my impression since being here.

How. Awful. Don't cops have anything better to do than fingerprint little kids who flirtingly draw on each other's desks? How long have these SSA characters been policing such heinous actions? Seems like the money spent on this program would be better spent elsewhere. Maybe Bloomberg could give it to the kids who won't have MTA cards to get to school at all next fall?

@BroadwayBK: You make good points. But talking to Bloomberg about it is like talking to a brick wall. He wants safe classrooms first.

@hhusted Sounds like he's doing a crappy job. I would've been arrested just about every day, as I was always drawing on my desk. And these kids are using erasable markers, so what's the big deal? Just let the kids flirt with each other, let them be kids.

OMG what is the world coming to? doesn't Bloomberg have more important issues to tackle like the city's finances than go after school kids?

@BroadwayBK and @uptowngirl: You two ought to read this article: http://www.maketheroad.org/article.php?ID=706 What the SSA is doing is fragrantly illegal. But Joel Klein doesn't want to lose his favoritism with Bloomberg. After all, Bloomberg and Klein are close friends. So he sits idly by and watches but says or does nothing. A trial will take place. The only question is when.

As good an argument as any I've ever heard to home school the kids. Man, certain mayors just need to be smacked around until they start making sense.

@Uraniumfish: I'll hold him and you do the smacking. How's that. Hey, Uptowngirl, do you want to get a smack in to? :)
