NYC kid-friendly restaurants

This Village Voice article seemed like a good starter guide for those with families. It looks like they tried to be representative of many NYC neighborhoods, but what do you guys think of sending people to so many junk food places--pizzerias, hot dogs--I'm not sure I'd want to feed my children that much fat before they turn 10.

@Uraniumfish On the family-centric Upper East Side, Tony di Napoli is an old world, family style restaurant which is a big hit with families who have kids-http://www.tonysnyc.com/. I have never eaten there but have friends who take their kids there regularly. Also there is actually a supermarket on 84th Street and Second Avenue Kidfresh that sells wholesome prepared kids meals which are perfect for those parents who don't have time to cook for their young ones.http://nymag.com/listings/stores/kidfresh/

I really like the Three Guys chain of diners on Madison Avenue in the Upper East Side. It's not kid-friendly in an advertised way, but they DO have a children's menu and a really family-friend vibe/crowd. The food is pricey for a diner, but it's actually pretty fantastic (I grew up right above one/going there all the time - and I *still* miss it. It's the first place I go when I go back to NYC, and I salivate just thinking about their linguine with chicken and broccoli in a red sauce. Comfort food all the way!)

@Uraniumfish I'm not sure I'd want to feed my kids that junk either. McDonald's starts marketing to kids when they're in preschool because research shows that you develop your tastes early in life. Get them early, they say, and they'll be McDonald's customers FOREVER. That's not to say that it's not fun to go eat junk once in a while - it's especially awesome if you're a kid.

I really loved fruit and vegetables as a kid, so it's unimaginable to me that children acquire a taste for junk food so early. It actually seems unnatural to me to eat at McDonalds, and during the few times in college when I ate badly because I was studying too much, I would start feeling sick within days. Which is not to say that I don't enjoy my junk food once in a while. It's fun go all out and hit the old burger and fries, but I only do that maybe once or twice a year.

@Everyone McDonald's didn't exist in India when I was a kid but now its extremely popular with kids there and its no wonder childhood obesity rates are skyrocketing in urban India as well. I too hate junk food and tend to avoid it though I do enjoy a Subway sandwich once a way.
