Isn't that fashion statement a little dated? I mean, I know people still do it, but it's not as prevalent as in the 90s, right?

@Neversleeps Youre right I think the 90's or early 2000 was when low rise jeans were all the rage for both men and women. More than the saggy, baggy jeans it used to be the visible thongs that used to disgust me..

I'm not a huge fan of the look; I tend to wear low-ish jeans myself (of the tighter, rather than baggier, variety) and hate not having shirts that go down far enough...I can't imagine CHOOSING to leave a gap there...

Wait, yeah . . .I wasn't aware that this look came back. I haven't seen the baggy pants anywhere, at least.

Have baggy pants every been fashionable on girls? Why is it that we have to squeeze ourselves into skin-tight jeans when the boys get nice, loose pants to wear!

@ajadedidealist I really dont think baggy pants have ever been fashionable for women though I do remember the era of paper bag waists but even that was short-lived. Fashion norms seems to dictate that form fitting fashions are more attractive for women of all shapes and sizes hence the pressure for us to sport tight pants and the like.

@Ajadedidealist: I think the reason man can wear baggy pants and women don't is the image that society or media sees for women. Women have to be sexy, thin, and dressed a certain way, especially if they are models.

I actually LOVE loose-fitting clothes - not necessarily baggy, but flowing skirts, loose dresses, etc. I think they're much more flattering - even on supermodels/the skinniest of the skinny!

When I lived abroad there was this brief spring when it seemed like waistless, baggy dresses were all the rage for women. I remember watching two women dancing at a club and telling a friend of mine, "Oh look, it's two potato sacks enjoying themselves out there." Flowing skirts are great, but you gotta not lose the line of the waist, it can get so unattractive.

Yeah, I think the baggy pants aren't quite as dangerous or prevalent as they once were. So that poor politician isn't even addressing an issue that's all that much of a problem any more. Some people have nothing to do, though.

Personal favorite, @uraniumfish: loose shirt dresses belted at the waist. For some perfect Grace-Kelley-esque glamorously WASPY look.

I actually see the baggy pants thing a lot in Bushwick/ Bed-Stuy. A lot of the time these are grown men walking around with their pants hanging down, probably because they haven't bothered to update their look over the last fifteen years. But, yeah, I definitely see this ALL THE TIME.

@uraniumfish I think those Trapeze dresses were all the rage a couple of years ago but most men I know used to hate them as they used to say that they made a woman look pregnant.

But, the trapeze dresses were so handy for Mexican food eating nights!!

I still see those things in stores all the time - I think you could probably still pull them off during Mexican-food-eating nights on the town.

@JenMac you're telling me. @BroadwayBK yeah that's one trend that's not going away soon. Another such trend is ruffles. They seem to be everywhere and are such a pain to iron. Don't know when designers will tire of them.. I am certainly bored and can't wait to see the back of them.
