My husband and I celebrated a wedding anniversary at Trump National's Cafe Pacific. Not only did we have a full view of an incredible sunset but the food was fantastic. We were greeted by name when we arrived and I was impressed that the chef, Jean-Pierre Vincent, came to the table to discuss the food with us. He even prepared a special anniversary dessert plate for us. The food is pricey, but the experience was worth it.

If you consider watching an amazing sunset while dining by a firepit right on the ocean bluffs romantic, then you should definitely visit Nelson's at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. Dine al fresco or indoors while watching dolphins go by in the Pacific right below you. Or gaze out to Catalina Island in the distance. To the north, you can see the Pt. Vicente Lighthouse, which legend states, is haunted by a young woman. The grounds at Terranea are splendid and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The menu at Nelsons is pretty much limited to burger type fare. So, it isn't wildly expensive. They don't take reservations. So, get there early on the weekends or take a book in case you have to wait a bit.

If I'm planning a romantic dinner I usually think first about Mangiamo's in Manhattan Beach on Manhattan Beach Blvd. It has great ambience and awesome food. And it has a back room that looks like a wine cellar (I think they do keep their wines there) and tends to be quieter and more intimate. You can also take a nice romantic walk down the Manhattan Beach Pier to walk off all that yummy food after dinner!
In the same vein, there is The Bottle Inn in Hermosa Beach. It's just off The Strand on 22nd Street. Great wines. Both are Italian restaurants. The Bottle Inn is not as expensive but the food is great too and the the atmosphere is cozy and romantic.

Ok. This is a little outside of the box but this is what my husband and I like to do. We fill a thermos with chardonnay and head down to Golden Cove to the Subway Sandwich place. We get a couple of 6" subways and sit on the patio watching the sunset and sharing our thermos of wine. But, be careful. Sometimes the bus parks right in front of the Subway and obscures your vision of the ocean.

Try the Lunada Bayhouse Restaurant in Lunada Bay in Palos Verdes Estates. It has incredible steak, seafood, and pasta dishes and is in a beautiful neighborhood. Come early and take in the view from the cliffs of Lunada Bay.
