Based on test scores, Lakewood High School outranks Alameda by quite a bit. With an average rating of 8 on a 1-10 scale (10 being highest), it outshines Alameda by six points. Yes, according to state scores Alameda is one of the worst high schools around. On the other hand, state scores rarely tell the whole picture. Parents who have taken the time to rate and discuss the school, administration, and teachers routinely rate it higher and praise the attempts of teachers and administration to make the school a better place. As with any school, children who are more involved in things such as sports and activities tend to do better regardless of the school.
Jefferson County schools offer what they call Choice Enrollment. This allows any Jeff Co student the opportunity to go to any school within the district. They don't need to go to one particular school because their address dictates it. Hope this helps!
