King St, SoHo

Tucked away just south of West Houston Street, this sleepy street is well-placed conveniently between two subway stops, Spring Street for the A,C, and E trains, and Houston Street for the 1 and 2 trains. Also located near a number of municipal buildings, among them the U.S. Small Business Small Business Administration and National Archives, this area can feel a bit soulless, especially given the look and layout: a number of unattractive, boxy administrative buildings dominate this street, rather than the charming brick townhouses for which must of the West Village is known. There isn't much to do here - the area is primarily composed of offices - although those with a sweet tooth might want to supplement their rendez-vous with the National Archives with a trip to the Jacques Torres Chocolate Haven (although there's a wealth of standard fast-food and bagel-options as well for the less choosy). King Street is, overall, a primarily functional commercial area, albeit one with fewer culinary and nightlife options than elsewhere in the city. Its location, however, makes it a convenient commuter destination.

Consider it one of those "pass through" streets. It is simply a residential street with nice buildings and a nice general atmosphere but the foot traffic is light and the businesses even lighter in the area. It is easily accessed though making it a contender for residential life. The 1 subway stops at Houston Street only one block up and the C,E are just two short blocks south at Spring Street. Overall it's a nice enough road that makes travel and commuting simple.

I happened upon King Street when I was attempting to get from 8th to Hudson Street and while it was nice enough there wasn't anything that drew me to it. Last time I happened by it there was a good deal of construction going on. The Area towards 6th Avenue is much nicer and the apartment buildings appear well maintained and rather peaceful. It is close to a lot of amenities which is important for anyone moving into the city, but not a necessity for people simply visiting. There are a few subway stations in the general area which makes it easy to get too and from.

While there are plenty of business, churches, and restarants, this street has constant traffic, there isn’t constant fun. I think that this would be a nice street to live on, though it seems that there are a lot of run down places on this block without a lot of wherewithall to fix anything up. I wasn’t impressed with the upkeep, but I was impressed by some of the delightful people I met who ran the shops and stores on Murdoch avenue

I really enjoyed the look and feel of King Street and all it had to offer in the neighborhood as a whole. Though there wasn't much happening on the street itself, there was a good vibe and some nice housing options. I think that it's a nice block in New York City, and was pretty clean.

King Street is also a wonderful place to begin your journey into the Village. It is close to the following metros: C,E at Spring Street and the 1 at Canal. It is also accessible by many buses. Foot traffic is fairly heavy and I would recommend the street to just about anyone!
