The nearest Trader Joe's to Bedford would actually be in Darien, CT and it would be a 13 mile drive. It would take you about a half an hour total.

Or, if you happened to be coming through the opposite direction, you could stop at the Trader Joe's at #215 North Central Ave (Hartsdale) or the one at #727 White Plains Road (Scarsdale). The distance is just a bit further.

Off exit 2 on Rt 84 East or off Rt 6 there is a very nice shopping center with some very nice stores all in one location. There is a Trader Joe's, an Annie Sez which has always had incredible values for women's shoes and clothing, a liquor store with good prices and a new Shoe Warehouse with an extraorinary selection. Plus a Staples, a pet shop and a great little Mexican restaurant. One stop shopping I say!

If you live in south Salem you could go to Connecticut and have Connecticut tax rates which are cheaper than ny tax

I was going to suggest the Trader Joe's in Danbury, though that one's about 20 miles. But it's right off I-84, pretty easily accessible and not far from Danbury Fair Mall.
