Living in Inner Sunset is really ideal. You are far enough inland that you don't get too much fog, but far enough from the City that you get away from tourists and the worst of the craziness. You are literally in walking distance of the best parts of Golden Gate Park and the Haight. It is hilly in parts and flatter in others and their is a pretty good range of choices in terms of housing, from apartments to some houses (though all pretty much on the smaller side).

There are also great restaurants. If you work or study anywhere in San Francisco this is a good spot for you.(Works especially well if say you work in the Financial District but your boyfriend studies at SFSU. )
