"Nice quiet street in Belmont - good, although not perfect"

The 1900 block of Hillman Ave is relatively quiet without much traffic. The houses are an eclectic mixture of ages, which is a nice change from other tract home areas. Compared to other streets in Belmont, there is some parking, but the lack of enough parking and any sidewalks leaves it mainly a one-lane road with pedestrians dodging cars - much like most of the Belmont Hills.

The views of the hills are beautiful no matter where on the block you live, and there are many trees and lovely vegetation - along with the plentiful deer, birds, squirrels, and raccoons that come along with nature. Aside from the deer constantly eating my garden and fruit trees, I love the greenness.

I was disappointed after moving in that the area is not closer to any kid-friendly parks with playgrounds. The nearest park (and the only one within walking distance), Patricia Wharton Park, was recently redesigned, unfortunately only with landscaping and benches, making it essentially into a fancy bus stop. A playground would have revolutionized the neighborhood, but unfortunately the city council decided differently.

The street is in the Central Elementary School area, which is one of the best in Belmont.

The street parallel to Hillman - Mezes Ave. - comes alive at Halloween! The block between Terrace and Notre Dame shuts down for a block party, and in general the houses get REALLY into decorating. I very much enjoy being just one block away from the party!

Unfortunately, it is not terribly close to shops and restaurants. It is a nice walk DOWN the hill about a mile to the Carlmont shopping area of Belmont, but the trek back UP makes it one we don't take on very often.

Overall, I enjoy living in Belmont, however, if I were to move I would likely pick a place closer to shops, freeway access, and parks in the future.
