I didn't grow up here so I don't know what the schools are like in Haight-Ashbury, but I do know--or think I know--that Grattan is the local elementary. Also they have some private schools here like La Perouse a French language school. I think they do all the instruction in French--kind of like a French immersion program.
There are a couple of other choices too in terms of private schools and you are that far from Pacific Heights so you can definitely find a bundle of private schools to choose from.
