Thought not as bad as the Tenderloin, Haight Ashbury is not that safe a neighborhood. A lot of it has to do with all the drug activity that still goes on in the neighborhood--a hold over from the 60's. It is mostly a nuissance though, and not so much a fear that you are going to get killed. About the same as North Beach I would say.
