Where's the best camping near Grand Junction?

Are there any really good camping places near Grand Junction? How about places you need to backpack into?

I'd definitely check out the Colorado National Monument. There's a lot of hiking and campgrounds around this area, and it stretches on for acres.

There is an official campground called Saddlehorn Campground just four miles into Colorado Monument from the Fruita entrance, this is directly south of the Grand Junction area. In the Monument you can also get free backcountry camping permits and go into the many red rock trails on the Monument.
