Safety of Flatbush-Ditmas Park?

I'm a college student (white, female, 5'2" - if it matters) that's looking for an apartment in NYC. I looked at a studio on Ocean Ave, past Cortelyou, that I liked. I walked around during the day and felt totally fine. I went back at night (around 11) with a friend to walk around and also felt fine. However, there are crime maps online that are a bit troubling, particularly the one on Trulia. It's almost like my apartment is part of a "buffer" between a safe neighborhood and a rough neighborhood.

Anyway, if anyone has any insight to offer, I really appreciate it!
