For the most part, I'd consider Edgewater to be one of the safer parts of the city. I don't necessarily think there are "areas to avoid", but any major city requires a bit of street smarts when going anywhere late at night.

Edgewater is pretty nice all in all. I'm around a fair amount, and it's a fairly safe in general. I don't think you have to avoid any areas in particular.
