Actually i have lived all over the city and closer to downtown wrigleyville, west side, southwest, hyde park almost everywhere.....and i love the public transport options provided in Edgewater. I can get to work faster from Edgewater than when living in lakeview and lincoln park....both closer to downtown. to get to north michigan ave the Red line (not my favorite) or the 147 bus would be quickest but there are several other bus routes that work their way into the downtown. The 147 rules for me i can be to work in 15 min once on the bus in the morning.... after i get there are just a few stops before it is on lake shore drive non stop to michigan ave,,,,,,no taxi needed even if late....for work this is just as fast.

It's Chicago, which in general means yes, and since Edgewater isn't too far from The Loop it's better than other areas, and even the worst is usually pretty decent.
