The East Village is so expansive now that Alphabet City has been incorporated. The Alphabet part is somewhat similar to the Lower East Side. The higher numbered streets west of 1st looks a bit like the West Village and Gramercy. And, the rest is really unique. There's not anything like the East Village as far as diversity of people, architecture, food and energy. It is such a lively and colorful neighborhood. It's what I think most people imagine New York to be.
