"Pleasant part of the UES"

While not as cozy as Carnegie Hill, this stretch of the Upper East Side is nevertheless pleasant and comfortable. Home to a number of good, popular restaurants further east, such as Mediterranee, Orsay, and the charming tea house Alice's Tea Cup a couple of blocks south, this district is family-friendly but nevertheless sufficiently "adult" to provide some entertainment for the grown-ups, in the forms of a couple of more upmarket bars like Vino, as well as more relaxed places like watering hole Phoenix Park. However, the area is primarily residential, and real night owls might want to consider a place further downtown.

Medical facilities are particularly strong here, with Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital, one of the nation (if not the world's) best cancer research centres, and New York Presbyterian Healthcare Centre, and the Hospital for Special Surgery. Hunter College is also close by for those wishing to enroll or even take courses on a by-interest basis, while nearby high schools include St. Vincent Ferrar and Talent Unlimited High School, and the prestigious Catholic Dominican Academy.
Pros
  • Medical care
  • Landmark buildings
  • Very quiet and pretty especially near Madison and Fifth Avenue
Cons
  • Expensive around Fifth, Madison, and Park Aves
  • No real nightlife scene
  • Primarily residential though more commercial between Third and Lex

"As prestigious as they come"

East 66th Street is a quiet tree lined street which is considered to be one of the prettiest streets on the Upper East Side. This street which hosts mainly pre-war buildings and townhouses used to until recently lie within one of the most prestigious zip codes in the USA- 10021 believed to be home to some of the richest people in the country. This changed in 2007 when the US postal service divided this zip code and placed E 66 in zip code 10065. All this may sound trivial to someone who doesn’t live in New York City but if you are a New Yorker you would understand the snob value attached to this particular zip code.
E. 66th street extends from York Avenue to Central Park on 5th Avenue. There is an entrance to the Park on 66th street and the M66 bus which traverses the length of the 66th Street from the East to the West Side and back uses the 65th traverse road through the park.
Some of the major landmarks on East 66th Street include buildings like the historic Carrie Astor House on 3 East 66th Street which houses the Indian consulate( the visa section of the consulate however is located in the basement of the building and is anything but grand), the newly constructed Sloan Kettering Breast and Imaging center which is located on Second Avenue and the Manhattan House apartment block which is a post war building on 200 East 66th Street which has recently been cited by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission as a NYC landmark. East 66th also houses the Seventh Regiment Armory or the Park Avenue Armory which is run as a non profit organization and is a venue for major art and antique fairs in NYC.
The street also hosts several commercial businesses like branches of major banks( TD bank at 66 street and third avenue), coffee shops – the popular Alice’s Tea Cup II is located on E 66 between third and Lexington avenues, art galleries, restaurants, outlets of major retailers like Banana Republic, Gap, Coldwater Creek, Club Monaco, American Apparel, Sephora and many mote.
Pros
  • Very quiet and pretty especially near Madison and Fifth Avenue
  • Landmark buildings
  • Close to the 68th street subway station
Cons
  • Primarily residential though more commercial between Third and Lex
  • No real nightlife scene

"Residential, Lovely to look at"

East 66th Street is a relatively quiet and residential street. It has all the regular New York amenities that any resident would need, but as far as tourist attractions, there aren’t too many (unless you count the nearby Central Park). There is a pretty cool bistro that scales the border between tourist attraction and neighborhood gem – and that is Bistro Chat Noir. You can actually find both tourists and residents here.

"Movin' On Up To The East Side"

This is pretty much a typical Upper East Side street. It is an upscale residential area flooded with High Rise buildings. You are within walking distance from the 6 train which is located on 68th street and Lexington. There are many restaurants to choose from. Not all as pricey as you would expect on the Upper East Side. A lot of great things are within your reach on this particular street like Central Park, Madison Avenue shopping and the FOX 5 TV station which is located on 67th street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. You may catch a glimpse at some of the journalist from time to time I've seen a couple of them standing outside the building before. They also frequent 3rd Avenue sometimes to ask people on the street questions. So if you’re lucky you might be on TV!

"Exclusive and expensive addresses"

East 66th street is a truly exclusive location. Along the street private clubs and landmark buildings mark the way. The Manhattan House is a landmark building that has had some extremely exclusive residents and offers a plethora of amenities. The Cosmopolitan Club has also become a staple in the area. The club is a private, women only, club with extremely influential members, both past and present. This is a very exclusive neighborhood so one looking to move on a budget is not going to find what they need here, but it's always nice to dream.

"East 66th Street"

This street is very similar to other streets here on the Upper East Side. With convenience and access to some of the nicest real estate in the city, it’s the place to be. Mediterraneo is a wonderful restaurant and I suggest you make a visit! After dinner, there’s a Starbucks for a wonderful Caramel Macchiato!
