"From pretty great to not-so-nice"

If Dekalb has a lot of mixed reviews, it's because the street is a long one and goes through neighborhoods of varying safety and attractiveness. Where the street cuts through Fort Greene, there are a lot of shops and quaint little cafes - the all-natural beauty supply shop Carol's Daughter comes to mind - and the street runs along Fort Greene Park. This area is a great one for tourists to visit; the street ends near the Heights and Downtown, neighborhoods that resemble Manhattan's Midtown.

However, if you're cruising north of Fort Greene into Bed Stuy and Bushwick on Myrtle you will notice a marked difference. If you aren't familiar with these areas then it's best to stay out of them. Though crime has gone down a lot in recent years, it's still not a place any tourist would want to end up - especially on foot. There are a lot of residential options here that offer low rents, but keep in mind the neighborhood isn't the greatest.
Pros
  • Carol's Daughter!
Cons
  • Traffic - at least near Downtown BK
  • Construction sites

"There is so much here"

From hospitals to schools to organic food market to the zagat rated restaurants this is a great place to live. The great thing also about dekalb is that is on mostly every block there is a great restaurant with so many different options. Another thing that is great about dekalb is there are colleges, middle schools and elementary schools that are sprinkled across this majestic street.

"On DeKalb Avenue"

I thought that this was a nice street in Brooklyn, and it was filled with residential options. There was a lot of traffic and a lot of small locally owned businesses. I think that this a good street and is located near the G metro station at Bedford-Nostrand Avenue. I also hail its convenience and commercial nature, but that adds to noise.

"Food is healthy and good"

From the Flatbush Avenue, BMT line is the most convenient way to get to the Dekalb Avenue. I had been there only for a weekend and it was okay. After looking around to get a feel of the place I felt hunger powering my belly and therefore decided to step in some restaurant. I entered the Ruthies restaurant. The aroma was so appetizing that I felt tasting all of the delicacies available but due to lack of cash in pocket I helped my self with a fried fish fillet.
