How safe is this Columbia City, Seattle?

I am planning on moving to this area but I just heard about a double murder near North Beacon hill today, which was close to Columbia City and I wonder if that is common in the area. Also crime rates would help!

I don't know official crime rates for this area, but I LOVE living in Columbia City. I think it has a worse reputation than it deserves. The worst area would probably be along MLK Way but even so, I'm a single woman and I have never felt unsafe here at night or any time.

This is a great website to view relative safety of neighborhoods: http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/wa/seattle/crime/

I used to live in Beacon Hill (which neighbors Columbia City), and unfortunately the vast majority of South Seattle neighborhoods and suburbs have very high crime. Columbia City itself is not the worst area in South Seattle, but there are parts of that are pretty bad - mostly near Beacon Hill and Rainier / MLK (probably two out of three of the worst areas in Seattle). According to the link I provided, the areas near Mt. Baker and Seward Park will be a lot safer in comparison.

Hope that helps!
