Would you recommend Biggs or Kroger--or another grocery chain altogether?

Walmart!! They are located almost everywhere and the prices are lower than Kroger by a long shot!

I prefer Kroger. Most of the stores have similar layouts, so it's easy to find what you want. Some Kroger stores are big but not so big that you get lost looking for the dairy aisle.
Besides I also support Kroger because it's a hometown corporation, and they employ many hometown workers in their stores, corporate offices and distribution center.

It really depends on where you live, but you're likely to find a Kroger in or near most neighborhoods. Most of the Biggs locations closed in the last few years, so there aren't very many of these. There are a number of Meijer stores, but there aren't nearly as many of these as there are Kroger. Personally, I shop at Kroger most, because there are two very close to my house. Even though Kroger is a large national chain, they are headquartered here in Cincinnati and are the largest employer in Cincinnati. Other stores I frequently shop at are Whole Foods (there are two local locations) and Trader Joe's (one location in Kenwood).
