About 30 minutes out of Cincinnati in Brookville, Indiana is the Whitewater River. Whitewater Canoe Rental and Morgan's Brookville Canoe Rental both offer canoe rentals along Indiana's Whitewater River.

Since Cincinnati's on the river and has plenty of lakes, there are many places to go canoeing in the area. My friends and I always head to Little Miami (http://www.littlemiamicanoe.com/) when we want to go either canoeing or kayaking. Their shop rents both canoes and kayaks and it's very low-key and not too pricey. Additionally, you can check out Loveland Canoe & Kayak (http://www.lovelandcanoe.com/) -- it's absolutely gorgeous on that part of the Little Miami River -- or Green Acres Canoe (http://www.greenacrescanoe.com/) if that's closer to where you live.
