Is Chatham in Chicago a safe neighborhood?

I am in Ottawa and am so tired of the drugs that are everywhere now. I am near 60 and would like to move to Chatham if its a place to relax and feel safe.

I'm going to say it's not the best. It isn't the most dangerous neighborhood, but you can certainly find better. Like ChiGrl4 mentioned, there are some bad areas nearby, and I've felt that influences the safety of Chatham a bit too much. It definitely could be worse, but I don't think you should go walking around by yourself at night.

Short answer, yes. Chatham itself is safe. It's a nice middle-class neighborhood. However, it's surrounded by some areas that aren't as nice or safe. Lately there have been some high-profile crimes in the neighborhood, including the shooting of a police officer and some serious armed robberies.
