Tourist safety, photography

Hi Everyone, im visitng San Fran in july and have seen alot of nice graffiti areas in and around 22nd street at central waterfront. Question is i would like to go there with my wife and take photos inside abandoned warehouses, is this a good or bad idea during the daytime? obviously i will have camera gear with me of value. any feedback appreiated. thanks guys.
