The Central Sunset neighborhood in San Francisco is pretty chill. You are far enough from the really busy areas of San Francisco--this is definitely not the all night party that the Mission and Castro District are. There are a fair number of younger families and students looking to have a little break from the craziness of the rest of the city. But you are still close enough to those places to have some fun on the weekends.
This is also a good spot if you are a couple where one is going to SF State while the other is working in the city. Crime is okay here and rents are too.
