Crime can take place anywhere and anytime. Castro area residents setup the Castro Patrol of volunteers to, well, patrol the streets to guard against a spate of crime a few years ago. Recently, though, a few areas have seen higher concentration of assaults on Hartford Street near 17th and 18th Streets and over the 100 block of Collingwood Street. Both areas are darker and make people more vulnerable. Like anywhere, be careful, walk with friends or avoid the area if you feel unsafe.
