Thoughts on the Election?

Here is my first thought about the governorship in specific: I don't think it really makes much difference who is the governor because propositions like Prop 13 tie the hands of legislators and make it so they really can't get much done. So Gray Davis, Arnold--they were both pretty ineffective. Until we get rid of those binding voter refferendums that keep our elected officials from governing, we are pretty much stuck with the energy, education and fiscal problems we have now.

I am still registered in Connecticut and have only recently been following California politics recently, so I don't know too much and can't really contribute anything too deep, but I am relieved that Meg Whitman didn't make the cut. I am bummed/surprised that Prop. 19 didn't pass, although I am sure that there are plenty of growers in Humboldt County doing cartwheels right now.

@NighOwInOrinda - I agree with you completely. We cripple ourselves by our own rules which is why we can't get anything done. The whole petition thing to get something on a ballot is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard of.
@StephSF - I hate to talk politics but I too am glad Meg Whitman didn't make it. For me it wasn't that she wasn't smart or capable, she just wasn't trustworthy. But then again, are any politicians trustworthy? LOL.

I think Governor Moonbeam is perfectly suited for the task though--you would have to be smoking something to think you have the answers to this state's problems. After all, not even the Terminator could do it.
