Sushi

Are there other sushi aficionados out there? What are your favorite spots? Bonus if they serve outstanding salmon sashimi...

My personal favorite, as of yet, is Tsunami Sushi on Castro Street in Mountain View (although there is a place in Japantown in SF that I prefer. The name escapes me and may very well be a Japanese word that I don't know).

Anyway, Tsunami has a great selection of nigiri sushi including shellfish as well as the standards, and some unique options like saltwater eel (Anago, I believe). But their eel is the best menu item by far.

However, I am still looking for the best salmon sashimi in the Bay Area and am open to any and all suggestions...

I'm not that into sushi myself, but my friend who is, really likes this quirky little place in Berkeley called the Joshuyo House Boat on Dwight just off of Telegraph. I know you're in the south Bay Steph, but if you happen to find yourself in Berkeley (say after being disappointed by Indian Rock, just kidding), you might give it a try. The service leaves a lot to be expected, but the sushi in my sushi friend's opinion is outstanding.

I personally liked the little details like the odd look of the place--a converted Victorian packed with a canopy of open sun-umbrellas. And, this I thought was a nice touch: lot's of their rolls have names like the Marilyn Monroe and the Audrey Hehpburn (sp?). Even the Cinderalla.

They definately had salmon, because that was what I had on the days that I went. I don't know sashimi from Toyota (insert your acceleration joke here), but it seemed pretty good to me--as far as sushi goes.

Hahaha. Sounds good. Sashimi is just the raw fish in its purest form, no rice, no nothing - which is a bit of an acquired taste for most sushi eaters.

And hey, I like Berkeley! I'm still curious to check out Indian Rock regardless, and they have a great climbing gym...

@StephSF: I have heard good things about Amasia on Noe Street in Duboce Triangle.

Here is the link to their website--there are of course lots of quality Sushi places in the City--especially by the financial district.

Here's one more for you I think no one has mentioned--Sushi Groove on Hyde in Russian Hill. I don't know Sushi from a wet shoe but a friend of mine mentioned it to me the other day.

I've been there. It's very good. But you need a reservation. It gets extremely crowded on the weekends.
