"Scenic Views in the Middle of Nowhere"
Pescadero is pretty much the no man's land of the Cabrillo Highway - the beautiful stretch of coast highway one that runs south of San Francisco. It is too far south to be right next door to Half Moon Bay, and likewise too far north to adjoin Santa Cruz. The result is a tiny town that hosts little more than a few general stores.
The up side to this lovely stretch is that the ocean views are stunning - as unspoiled as the coast further north, and as idyllic as the views offered from the mansions in Malibu and La Jolla - but without the crowding. Any home that is going to be located on the coast of California, particularly in the Bay Area, is pretty much guaranteed to be outrageously overpriced with no guarantee of long-term investment value, but for the right person, this town could definitely be a great fit.
And if remote living with no access to cell phone reception does not strike your fancy, consider taking a drive down this highway one day, if nothing else than simply to marvel at the spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, and stop at one of the virtually empty public beaches. While the water may be too cold to swim in, your photo album will thank you later.
