Where to live when working in Boerum Hill? Bay Ridge or Sunnyside?

As a girl originally from the country with a family farm, I do love the natural outdoors, so Bay Ridge seems like the winner on that front. And my boyfriend travels out of town for work, so I want to feel safe in my neighborhood when I am by myself. I definitely enjoy getting out and exploring the city, and I want some cool date-night options, but most nights, I am a homebody and will be relaxing with a cup of hot tea and some Doctor Who on Netflix. :) I'm an introvert by nature, but I am moving to NYC because I love all of its energy and all the incredible choices of stuff to do and see. So at least once or twice a week, I will likely want to go into the city. But otherwise, my time will be spent working in Boerum Hill. Sunnyside seems like a totally different type of neighborhood with different perks, some of which I definitely like (ex. proximity to city and feeling like you actually live in NYC). And the rents are great in both places. So my two biggest priorities are SAFETY and COMMUTE to Boerum Hill. (FYI, my boyfriend is a comic and will be all over NYC and surrounding areas, usually evenings until the wee hours of the morning.) What are your thoughts?
