With the weather here, do many Beekman residents own generators?

Would it be wise to have one because of winter weather, storms, etc.?

Yes, especially if they live in heavily wooded areas. Enough rain and snow will make trees fall on power lines, and power can be out for days ... or in the case of a hurricane or major snowstorm, weeks. You can pay thousands of dollars and have a deluxe generator installed in your house which will turn everything back on at the flip of a switch, or you can go the cheaper route and buy a portable, gas-fueled, hand-started generator for a few hundred dollars that will turn on the necessities, like heat, water, and a few lights. Even with the cheaper version, however, you'll still have to pay an electrician to come and wire your house to accept the generator. It would be very wise to get one ... when the power fails and it's 20 degrees out, it's no fun.
