"The Goonies neighborhood"

This is a relatively quiet neighborhood. A great place to raise a family. It's a series of dead-end streets, so traffic tends to be rather low. Except for the tourists looking for the Goonies house. There isn't a sign pointing the way, so we're sometimes asked, when standing outside, which house is the Goonies.

Young children in the neighborhood are within walking distance of the Kindergarten Cop school. Older kids are within a short bus ride's distance to their schools. And if they miss the bus, they can hike over the hill to the middle school or high school.

Want a quick burger or pizza? Just walk a couple of blocks and you're at a great little neighborhood place. Or call in an order and ask for delivery. Walk a little further and you're at a great brewery and restaurant (Rogue River) overlooking the Columbia River. In the morning you can walk to a quaint coffee shop with the best scones I've ever eaten (Coffee Girl) followed by a brisk walk along the river trail. Finish off your morning workout at the gym before walking up the hill to your house. And on the way home from work, stop at the major grocery store just a few blocks from home.

Haven't even talked about the houses! This is a late Victorian/early Craftsman neighborhood. Most of the homes are at least a hundred years old and are well-maintained. Teachers, nurses, truck drivers, doctors, retirees, and young families share the sidewalks. Astoria is a great town and this is a wonderful neighborhood.
