What are the best neighborhoods to live in when first moving to chicago?

I'm interested in moving from Chicago from NY, so I need to know what are the best neighborhoods for someone in their mid-20's who's moving from their home for the first time?

If you enjoyed New York City, you'll LOVE Chicago! Like NY, each neighborhood has a "vibe" based on housing stock, local retail & nightlife, proximity to the city/public transportation, and green spaces. Exercise fiends prefer living in a lakefront neighborhood so they can easily run/bike along Lake Michigan. Energetic & trendy foodophiles are migrating to Ukrainian Village/Wicker Park. Cubs fans embrace Wrigleyville, and still others live on commuter lines so they can do the reverse commute thing. When you come to Chicago, have your real estate agent give you a one-day overview tour of the neighborhoods so you can see typical homes in each area. You'll have it narrowed down right away, and you'll soon be enjoying the best Chicago has to offer!

Hey UB. It is probably exciting to move away for the first time and yet a little nerve racking. Just like NY here many different neighborhoods within the Chicago area. Before you start looking for neighborhoods you need to make an assessment of what you want which would then define the "best" neighborhood for you. First, figure out the "must-have" things for example your budget $, safety, commute times, near public transportation, being with younger crowds, etc. Then also figure out the "nice to have" like being able to walk to places, bars, cafes, sports, etc. With that information you can use websites like www.homeologychicago.com to help determine the right neighborhood for you. Hope that helps.
